Computation of Optimized Electrode Arrays for 3-D Electrical Resistivity Tomography Surveys

The present study explores the applicability and effectiveness of an optimization technique applied to electrical resistivity tomography data. procedure is based on Jacobian matrix, where most sensitive measurements are selected from a comprehensive data set enhance least resolvable parameters reconstructed model. Two existing inversion programs in two three dimensions modified incorporate this new approach. Both them selecting optimum initial which comprised merged conventional arrays. With two-dimensional (2-D) approach, 2-D survey profile then clone resulting reproduces three-dimensional (3-D) composed equally spaced parallel lines. In different with 3-D technique, individual approaches compared Stummer’s resolution matrix. approach has advantage without need for solution problem since matrix calculated as part forward problem, thus being faster previous published approached calculation sensitivity Synthetic extension works case field studies Greece tested, verifying validity study, fewer (about 15–50%) able reconstruct model similar one produced original set.
